My 150th anniversary Sunderland RFC book is now on sale at the club. The book is in two parts. The first part looks at the club's very first season, how it came into being and who were our very first players and opponents. The second part tells the amazing story of the discovery in a family home of the complete rugby kit of Alfred George Hudson - one of the club's founding members and named as a player for SRFC between 1875 and 1884. The World Rugby Museum authorities have noted in writing that this is the oldest complete set of club rugby kit known to them. The story of the kit can be told in full thanks to online family history and newspaper sites and we now have a full picture of its travels. The accompanying picture is of Alfred and is from the inaugural county cup winning side of the 1880s. Alfred scored two of the three tries in the victory. Copies of the book will be on sale at Ashbrooke ( and on match days in particular) and every penny of the £5 goes to the rugby club.
